The Konami Games XBOX Players Want to be Backward Compatible

16,753
votes for Konami games on XBOX that are not yet backward compatible, from 7,944 players. Silent Hill leads them all.
What this is

A measurement, not a petition.

XBOXGamePreservation.com asks players a single question: which Original XBOX and XBOX 360 games do you want to be able to play again via backward compatibility on modern XBOX consoles? This page pulls out every game Konami published on those two consoles, and looks at what it owns, what it licenses, and where the demand actually sits.

What is XBOX backward compatibility?

It's the program in which Original XBOX and XBOX 360 titles are given the green light by publishers and rights holders to let XBOX make them playable, and often buyable, again on current XBOX consoles. For rights holders, the key requirement is approval. XBOX handles the technical work required to bring supported titles to modern consoles.

In July 2026, that program expanded to PC: the same approval that brings an Original XBOX game to modern consoles can now also make it playable on PC. That expansion currently covers Original XBOX titles, so the Original XBOX games here would be eligible. 18 of the non-sports Original XBOX games in this analysis never received a PC release, including Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and Bloody Roar Extreme, so approval could bring each to PC for the first time. Those 18 are marked ▸ PC debut in the full list below, alongside 11 more Original XBOX sports titles that share the same distinction. A handful of titles, Konami's Kinect-exclusive games, require the Kinect sensor, which modern XBOX consoles do not support; those are marked "Kinect" in the platform column.

Where the demand sits

Silent Hill leads, but Konami's demand is much broader than its biggest franchise.

The demand splits across five buckets: the franchises Konami owns outright, the film, and TV it publishes under license, sports titles, rhythm-games with licensed music, and games Konami published for other studios.

* Licensed from an outside media, character or league owner. ** Published on behalf of the studio that owns the game. Games are never combined across platforms: a title released on both Original XBOX and XBOX 360 is counted once on each. Voters do not sum across rows: someone who backed more than one tier is counted in each. Titles already backward compatible are counted separately.

The demand driver

Silent Hill is nearly a third of all the demand.

Silent Hill 4: The Room

Two Silent Hill games draw 4,600 votes between them, nearly a third of all Konami demand and the single largest franchise on the page by a wide margin: Silent Hill 4: The Room (2,569) and Silent Hill 2 (2,031). The 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake is a functionally different game. Neither game is officially playable on modern XBOX consoles today.

Silent Hill is one of Konami's own franchises, so the external IP licensing issue affecting several other titles on this page is less significant here.

The catalog Konami owns

48% of all demand is for properties that Konami owns.

The largest single share of the demand, 8,086 votes across 32 games, is for franchises Konami owns outright, so bringing them back may involve fewer outside rights-holders. The owned catalog also includes franchises associated with Hudson Soft, following Konami's acquisition of the company. Top five franchises by votes.

02Castlevania1 game905
03Metal Gear3 games466
04Otomedius / Gradius3 games465
05Bloody Roar1 game415

Beyond Silent Hill, Bloody Roar (415) is the single largest owned title after Silent Hill and Castlevania. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (905) stands out on its own, the only Castlevania game ever released on the Original XBOX, and never released on PC.

Konami's owned catalog also runs through Frogger, NeverDead, Bomberman, and Zombie Apocalypse, all listed in full at the end.

A wrinkle named licensing

A third of Konami's demand sits behind someone else's property.

Saw

21 games on this page, 6,072 votes, were published under license from a property's owner rather than built on Konami's own IP. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Saw and The Simpsons account for 72% of all licensed-property demand. Each of these would need the property owner's approval on top of Konami's.

Backward compatible, not for sale

Silent Hill: Downpour is already compatible, but can't be bought.

Silent Hill: Downpour has already been made backward compatible on modern XBOX consoles, and its 393 votes are the largest of any delisted Konami title by a wide margin. It was delisted from the XBOX store, so it can be played only by people who already own it. Downpour sits outside the demand totals above; for a game that is already compatible, the ask isn't backward compatibility, it's for the ability to purchase the game again.

What the signal suggests

Silent Hill is the biggest opportunity, but it isn't the only one.

The 16,753 votes come from games Konami owns outright and properties it publishes under license. Silent Hill alone accounts for 4,600 votes, but the rest of the owned catalog contributes another 3,486 across 30 more games, led by Bloody Roar, Castlevania, Metal Gear and Otomedius. On the licensed side, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Saw carry the biggest demand outside Konami's own IP.

4,600votes, nearly a third of all Konami demand, are for Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 4: The Room.

How the demand splits

Owned 48%Licensed 36%Published for others 7%Sports 6%Music 3%

That creates several distinct preservation opportunities: a flagship franchise with potentially less rights complications, a wider owned catalog running through Castlevania and Bloody Roar, licensed properties with demonstrated demand, and an already-compatible game that could return to the XBOX Store. The votes provide a map of where players are asking Konami to look next.

How to read this

Method and caveats.

Every figure here is a direct count from the site's public vote data, filtered to games Konami published on Original XBOX and XBOX 360. Games are never combined across platforms: each release on each console is counted on its own. Titles already backward compatible or delisted are set aside and counted separately, not folded into the demand totals.

Publisher and rights notes were checked title by title, to the best of my ability via public information. "Owned" means Konami holds the underlying IP; "licensed" means it publishes the game but the property belongs to someone else. Pro Evolution Soccer and the Dance Dance Revolution family sit in their own tiers because each carries a distinct kind of licensing, sports rights and music rights respectively, that a simple owned/licensed split would understate. Classification reflects the corporate and publishing relationships applicable to the individual title and does not imply that no additional rights clearance would be required. Vote counts measure interest, not a commitment to buy, and feasibility depends on agreements that are not public.
